Popular Ilkeston chippy to close

Jackson’s Chippy, a favourite fish and chip shop with many Ilkeston people, is to close next month.
The Market Street takeaway will serve its customers for the last time on Saturday 8th April.
Owner Dennis Jackson, 84, said he was being forced to call it a day by rising prices.
He revealed that he has been hit with a massive increase in energy costs.
“The cost of frying has quadrupled, making it impossible to continue,” he told us.
Dennis has been in business since 1961 when he bought The Noted Pie Shop at 39 Market Street.
The fish, chips and pies he made proved popular and he was soon able to upgrade his old coke-fired range to a modern gas one.
In 1982, the move was made from 39 to 54 Market Street, a former solicitors office.
While trading here, Dennis has used his enjoyment of cycling to raise funds for local charities, especially Ilkeston Hospital.
He has promised that a donation from the takings on his last day of trading will go to the hospital.
