Erewash is ‘BIG WINNER’ in Chancellor’s Spring Budget!

Erewash is set to receive a huge cash boost following the Chancellor’s announcement of £5 million of Government funding to support local cultural projects across the Borough in his Spring Budget.

The new funding, which was secured by Erewash MP Maggie Throup, recognises the crucial role culture can play in levelling up and will support projects that reinforce pride in our communities.

In what was the last Spring Budget before the next General Election, other measures to cheer include:

 A further 2 per cent reduction in National Insurance Contributions, which combined with tax cuts previously announced in the Autumn, will save the average worker over £900.00 per year
 An extension to the current freeze on alcohol and fuel duty
 An 8.5 percent increase in the State Pension
 £6 billion of new investment in our NHS
 Reform of the Child Benefit system to make it fairer

Speaking about the announcement, Maggie said:

“Erewash is already incredibly lucky to play host to a number of high-quality cultural events each year, including the Ilkeston Heritage & Classic Vehicle Show, The Long Eaton Carnival and the Charter and Chestnut Fairs.

“In addition, cultural hubs such as the Duchess Theatre and The Erewash Museum, and local landmarks like iconic Bennerley Viaduct, are responsible for bringing thousands of visitors into our towns and villages and providing a welcome boost to the local economy.

“Having secured this new £5 million investment, it is my intention that we now use this exciting opportunity to build on and expand existing cultural facilities, invest in new projects to bring our communities closer together and preserve more of our cultural heritage for future generations.”
