Vandalism at park kiosk

There’s been another sad episode in the story of the Barefeet in the Park refreshment kiosk – it has been hit again by vandals.
This morning owner Gemma Worthington arrived to find tables and chairs upturned, the children’s sandpit violated, and plant pots and table flower decorations gone.
The café in Ilkeston’s Victoria Park is a favourite destination for many local people.
Gemma said: “Barefeet is more than a job. It’s my absolute everything. It breaks my heart when these mindless acts happen to me. Please, if anyone finds the flowers, or is walking in the park in the evening, please keep an eye out to help.”
Regular customer Bill Smith said: “It’s disgusting. The Barefeet kiosk means a lot to many people. It’s not just a café with good food and drinks, it’s a place where people can meet and talk and enjoy the park.”
Barefeet took a hit the week before when seats were overturned, flower pots ruined and bunting pulled down, prompting Gemma to post on Facebook: “Please check where your kids are in an evening (assuming it’s kids).”
