Canal Vue care home in Ilkeston has partnered with Create to Connect, a virtual arts initiative from City Arts for the over 55’s.
Taking part in their first session, residents took part in an online Zoom art workshop with artist Emma Wass.
Singing along to Bob Marley’s song Three Little Birds, with the familiar refrain ‘Don’t worry about a thing ‘cause every little thing gonna be alright’, residents took part in the guided tutorial of drawing birds.
Caroline Carraher, Canal Vue Care Home Manager says: “Taking part in the City Arts imitative with Emma is providing great stimulus for our residents who have really appreciated the opportunity to try something new.
“Promoting positive mental wellbeing, this activity has really assisted in opening up new conversations and awakening old memories, which is hugely beneficial to those here and proved therapeutic.”
The sights and sounds of birds are familiar experiences to the residents as the home is situated in a picturesque canalside setting frequented by a variety of garden birds.
