The April 2017 edition of Ilkeston Life carried a photograph of John Tudor holding a copy of our paper at his home in Minnesota, USA.
It was part of a series ‘How far does Ilkeston Life travel?’
The paper was sent to him by his granddaughter Gracie Cooke.
It is sad to see news on ‘The Mag’ (a social media platform for Newcastle United fans) that John has been admitted to a care home suffering with dementia.
John played at a time when footballs were heavy – and many believe heading them resulted in players developing dementia later in life.
John was brought up in Ilkeston. He played youth football for Stanley Common and went on to play for Ilkeston, Newcastle Utd., Stoke City, Coventry City and Sheffield Utd. He was a prolific goalscorer.
We echo the messages on ‘The Mag’ – All our best John, and keep fighting.

John Tudor – All our best and keep on fighting
