Following a Spring lockdown challenge, a local school has produced a cook book containing favourite recipes provided by students.
The recipes were brought together by the Home Cooking Challenge held at Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy.
Food teacher Jo Drury sent out the challenge to all students during the COVID closure of spring term 2021: to spend quality time with their family creating their best loved food treats. Families were asked to write up and submit their favourite recipes, accompanied by their memories and thoughts about why the recipe means so much to them.
Jo said: “The recipes sent in were amazingly eclectic and demonstrated what a wonderfully culturally diverse school family we are. The memories and thoughts are both happy and poignant as many remembered loved ones they could no longer see.
“As an incentive for Ilkeston Life readers we would like to offer the 15% discount code BOSS15 valid until 21st May. ”

Over 50 delicious sweet and savoury recipes and stories are shared in the professionally produced full colour recipe book produced by Ilkeston publisher Lioness Publishing.
Funds raised from the sale of the cook book will be shared with the school PTA to benefit all students at St John Houghton CVA, and the Home-Start Erewash charity.
