Arthur Norman of the Ilkeston branch of the Royal British Legion sent us these images of the Japan News Forces Edition, available to soldiers serving there during the war. The paper, dated Friday February 8 1952, carries the sad news of the death of King George VI. His passing meant that our Queen Elizabeth II acceded to the throne, aged 25. Who was to know then that Queen Elizabeth would become the longest serving monarch in history? She has served our country and Commonwealth for seventy years.
