‘Local boy’ ordained at Winchester Cathedral.

John Charles Attenborough, who was brought up in Ilkeston, was ordained at Winchester Cathedral on Sunday 4th July.
He attended Larklands Infant School, Kensington Junior School and Cantelupe Secondary School.
John went to St Mary’s Church, Ilkeston from the tender age of three, playing an active part in Sunday school and becoming a choir boy and bell ringer.
He also joined the youth club at Nottingham Road Methodist Church, and became a young volunteer at Church Army summer camps.
John worked at the Mail House restaurant in Ilkeston before starting as a volunteer with the Mission to Seafarers at Immingham.
This was the beginning of a faith journey that took him to several parts of the world.
