Storm Babet

Rain will continue tonight in our area, forecasters say, but an improvement is on the way.
“Tonight will continue cloudy, wet and windy with spells of persistent rain. However, it will turn drier in towards dawn as the rain gradually clears northwards. Winds will also decrease.”
Friday (20th October) saw flooding, travel disruption and rescues from vehicles and homes in our corner of the East Midlands. Noticeably hit places included Nottingham, Derby, Trowell, and areas next to the swollen Erewash Canal.
Kirk Hallam Community Academy closed early after the school’s lake on Godfrey Drive flooded.
Ilkeston Charter Fair’s Friday opening was delayed because of the rain.
Erewash Borough Council gave the following advice:
Many side roads or more rural roads are closed.
Please do not travel unless your journey is essential. Do not drive or walk through flood water.
