Children visit older people’s friendship group

Nine Year 3 pupils from Ladycross Infants School visited members of the Friendship Hub of Kings Road Area Neighbourhood Watch.
The get-together took place at the Methodist Church Hall on Butt Street in Sandiacre on Friday 13th November after co-ordinator of the watch Tony Ford of had taken part in a school assembly.
In the school hall, the children asked Mr Ford to explain how his group was helping people. They were doing work on the community and supporting Mental Health Week.
Afterwards, the nine children delivered and gave out cards they had made for the members of the Friendship Hub.
The cards contained messages like: ‘If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours’.
The children mingled and spoke with the older people, who really enjoyed the interaction. Among the appreciative comments were:
“They made a card and two pictures for me, what a lovely thought.”
“It was lovely to see all the happy children with their cards, I hope to see them again in the future.”
“I thought I was going to cry, it was so sweet”.
The children were accompanied by Evie Darnell and Sarah Dumelow, two members of staff at the school.
