Grassroots sports and community groups across Derbyshire are being invited to apply for funding of up to £2,000 to help provide free sports and physical activities.
The grants are part of the East Midlands Mayor’s £10,000 Summer of Sport fund, designed to support local organisations offering free, accessible fitness activities throughout the autumn.
East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward said the funding aims to break down barriers to participation and bring communities together across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, with a focus on areas where there are currently gaps in local activities.
Mayor Claire Ward said: “The East Midlands has a proud sporting heritage, but for too long there have been barriers to people taking part themselves.
“With my Summer of Sport fund, local groups will get the backing to put on free, inclusive, and accessible events across the region, bringing our communities together and ensuring that proud heritage continues.”
The initiative forms part of wider efforts across the region to help families with living costs and support community-led projects.
Local sports clubs, youth groups, and community organisations in Erewash looking to offer free physical activity sessions can apply for funding directly through the Mayor’s office.
