Emergency services and local representatives stepped in to make a building safe in Ilkeston town centre after loose glass was spotted dangling over the pavement at around midday on Thursday 30th July.
The alarm was raised when a member of the public noticed a pane of glass waving dangerously from an upper window on Bath Street and contacted Councillor Kate Fennelly. After inspecting the scene and calling emergency services, Councillor Fennelly helped manage safety at the site alongside local Police Community Support Officers, guiding pedestrians away from cordoned-off areas.
A crew from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service arrived promptly to remove the broken glass before it could fall onto passers-by below. Following further checks around the rear of the premises, officers discovered open fire exits and damaged scaffolding, leading to immediate arrangements with building control officers to fully secure both the front and back of the property.
