A DAY of intriguing guided tours is offering Erewash residents a chance to find out what happens behind the scenes at . . . the local crematorium.
The open day at Bramcote is on Saturday 18 July and will offer rare glimpses of how one of the busiest crematoria in the UK operates.
The trips around the facility – which is jointly owned by Erewash council and neighbouring Broxtowe – will be taking place between 10am and 2pm.
There will even be free refreshments. An open day organiser confirmed: “Employees will be on hand to give guided tours of the crematorium, demonstrating the systems and procedures used during the daily routine.
“If you would like to visit us, there is no need to book – just arrive between 10am and 2pm.”
The tours have been lined up after Bramcote Crematorium’s compassionate staff scooped a national accolade for their responsive and caring approach to helping bereaved families.
The gold award was presented by watchdogs the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management.
Around 40 cremations a week – 2,500 a year – are held at Bramcote. The crematorium was built in 1979 as a joint venture by the two borough councils. It is set in 18 acres of natural woodland and features tranquil gardens.

Richard Mott, of the Bramcote Bereavement Service, said: “The end of life is a difficult subject to talk about but we know that people don’t want to leave a financial burden for their families after they’ve gone.
“Our new pre-paid plan gives people peace of mind that their cremation is secured at today’s prices and will never rise.”
