Public Consultation: Our Plan and 2026-2027 Budget
Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service (DFRS) is asking communities of Derbyshire to take part in a consultation around its current Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP), known as ‘Our Plan’, and its budget proposals for the next financial year (2026-2027).
As part of the seven-week consultation, the Service is seeking views on whether ‘Our Plan’ continues to address community risks as it proposes to extend the plan by a year, as well as comments on the supporting Annual Delivery Plan 2026-2027.
What is a CRMP?
Every fire and rescue service has a legislative responsibility to produce a CRMP at least every three years.
Our Plan outlines the risks that the Service is aware of and can foresee and demonstrates how the Service will address them. Our Plan ensures DFRS is ready to respond to emergencies, prevent fires, protect buildings and continuously improve the service we provide to the communities of Derbyshire.
Our current plan can be accessed as a PDF here or as an accessible document here.
Why is an extension needed?
The past 12 months have seen significant changes across both the Fire and Rescue Authority and the Strategic Leadership Team at DFRS. Due to the devastating circumstances relating to the illness and death of two Chief Fire Officers/Chief Executives (CFO/CE), the Service has been led by three different leaders over the past year.
The aim is to ensure leadership stability, which includes the recruitment of a permanent CFO/CE. As DFRS moves forward under this new leadership and governance, plans on how best to support and mitigate community risk must be agreed. We believe the best way to ensure this and to give assurance that our Service priorities continue to meet the needs of Derbyshire’s communities, is to pause the current work to develop a new CRMP and extend our current plan for one year with a supporting Annual Delivery Plan for 2026-2027.
Budget 2026-2027
In addition to extending Our Plan and introducing the Annual Delivery Plan for 2026-2027, the Service is also seeking views on the proposed budget increase for the next financial year.
With financial pressures continuing to rise, achieving a balanced budget is vital to maintain services and enable investment in both the Service and our communities.
