FANS of Eminem will be partying in Erewash this month – as the next best thing to the hip-hop superstar headlines a free music festival backed by the borough council.
James Wythes may not be the real Slim Shady but he has won rave reviews for his shows paying tribute to the rap icon.
He will be taking to the stage with his act – called The Eminem Show – on Ilkeston Market Place as part of the annual Glow Music & Art Festival on Sunday 24 August.
The summer music spectacular, which runs from noon to 9pm, will again see musicians performing in nearby pubs.
The main stage on the Market Place will be hosting acts including FuFu Sailors, Mantarray and The Soulmates Family.
International star James, from Halesowen, has been enjoying his biggest year yet after lining up a concert tour of Canada and an appearance at the 17,500-capacity Žalgirio Arena in Lithuania.
A blurb online promises: “If you’re looking for the closest thing to a real Eminem concert, this is it. Don’t miss your chance to experience The Eminem Show – where the music, the energy, and the legend come to life.” The Glow Music & Art Festival, which was launched after organisers successfully applied to Erewash council for a community grant, is in its third year. The event’s website says: “If you’re a fan of Eminem or looking for good vibes come on down and stay the day.”
Erewash’s Deputy Leader Becca Everett, who is Lead Member for Community Engagement, said: “The festival is lots of fun for all the family – with funfair rides, food stalls and even art on show.
“There will also be a stage at the Erewash Museum where you can catch a performance by the Restless Soles – an Appalachian dance troupe!”

The event successfully applied for what is known as a Member Grant – which is newly launched funding to boost community initiatives and volunteer groups across the borough. These are worth up to £3,500 and supplement existing Fast Funding grants that have the same aim.
