Long-time football rivals Ilkeston Town and Heanor Town will both play home matches at Ilkeston’s ground next season.
The clubs will share the Microlise New Manor Ground while Heanor’s ground undergoes redevelopment.
The Lions recently posted on social media: “We are delighted to announce that subject to planning permission and Football Foundation approval, the Town Ground will have a new 3G stadium pitch and car park in 2025.”
Heanor Town are members of the United Counties League Premier Division North. Last season they reached the quarter finals of the FA Vase.
Ilkeston Town are members of the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
Older football fans will remember the rivalry which used to exist between these clubs when both grounds – Ilkeston’s old Manor Ground and Heanor’s Mayfield Avenue – would be filled for clashes with each other.
Four years ago Ilkeston converted their pitch to 3G, enabling them to play in all weathers (no postponements) and allowing it to be used at any time by juniors, veterans, charity sides, etc. without fear of cutting up or getting waterlogged.
