Gertrude’s Big Day

Gertrude Goring, a resident at the Cedars and Larches Care Home in Ilkeston, celebrates her 100th birthday on Friday 21st March.
Staff at the home are preparing to mark the occasion with a party.

Gertrude was originally from Leeds in West Yorkshire. She was a member of the Watkin farming family and had two brothers: Walter and Jack, and a sister Agnes. Gertrude is the only one left.

She married her husband Neville Roy Goring in the late 40s. They had three children: Kathryn Marie was born in 1955, Roy Neville in 1957 and Michael in 1964.

Gertrude was said to be a fabulous mum who always put her children first. Sadly, husband Neville passed away in 2003. Gertrude had various jobs in this area including working as an operative at Chambers Pencil factory, a car valet at Sandicliffe Garage and an orderly at Queen’s Medical Centre.

She has been at the Cedars and Larches for the past five years. Gertrude is photographed with great granddaughter Scarlet in 2013.
