Former Newcastle United great John Tudor sadly passed away today, aged 78.
He had been battling dementia while living in America with his wife, Anne.
As a boy, Tudor, born in Ilkeston in 1946, played for Stanley Common MW in the Ilkeston Youth League and later for Cotmanhay United.
He then played for Ilkeston Town before breaking into the Football League with Coventry City.
The striker then moved to Sheffield United before making the step up to the First Division with Newcastle United in 1971.
He went on to make over 200 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 74 goals. His best time came in the 1972-73 season when he scored 24 goals in 48 appearances, forming a strong partnership with Magpies legend Malcolm Macdonald in attack.
On retiring from the game, Tudor moved to Minnesota to help promote football in the United States.
In the Cotmanhay United team picture he is second left on the front row.
