Very sad news – Esther Collington, historian, author, nature lover, countryside campaigner, Lakeside Festival organiser has died.
Esther was a mine of information about old Kirk Hallam.
Many people will have enjoyed her books: ‘A History of Kirk Hallam Church and Village’ and ‘Memories of Kirk Hallam’.
She was always willing to share what she knew.
She was one of life’s givers. In the early days of Ilkeston Life newspaper, we received many articles which were hand-written. These of course had to be keyed in for use in the paper and Esther very kindly offered to do that for us – without payment.
Despite her disability, she was involved in so many organisations, and will be sadly missed by many people, as well as the birds and animals that came to her garden.
Revd Christine French, Vicar of All Saints Church Kirk Hallam, described her as ‘an amazing person’.
Esther’s funeral will be at All Saints on Monday 16th December at 1.30pm before moving on to Bramcote for cremation.
