A local Scout group will soon be celebrating its 70th anniversary.
The 21st Ilkeston (Kirk Hallam) group is inviting anyone who has been connected with them as a leader or committee member over the years to get in touch so they can tell them about their upcoming event.
Diane Harris, current Akela (Cub leader), recently met the very first Akela: Ruth Horton.
Ruth, a teacher, started up the Cub pack in 1957, just three years after the launch of the Scout section.
During their chat, the memories came flooding back.
Ruth said she loved the time she did Scouting and treasured memories of the things they got up to. She remembered especially a St George’s Day parade on Bath Street when she was heavily pregnant.
Diane has been busy contacting people from the past to help the group mark the milestone next month.
“The search is ongoing,” she says, “so please get in touch if you have been a leader or committee member with us, we would love to hear from you.”
Diane can be contacted by telephone: 0115 932 9979 or by email: [email protected]
