Ilkeston Library marked 120 years in the town today with a celebratory event.
Various interest groups were on hand to share what they are doing, and visitors had the opportunity to share a cuppa and a piece of birthday cake.
Libraries are not just about books and reading these days – they offer computers, tuition, meeting places, children’s spaces, display areas, local information, etc.
When the library was first built, lenders chose their books from a list of titles.
It was a gift from Andrew Carnegie, Scottish-American industrialist and philanthropist. It remains one of the most recognisable buildings in Ilkeston.
