Football pundit Robbie Savage’s Macclesfield were the visitors to the NMG tonight.
They came with three wins from their first three matches and soon showed why they are hot favourites to win the league.
They had Ilkeston on the ropes for most of the first half.
Ilkeston held out until the 32nd minute when Justin Johnson raced into the area and let fly with an unstoppable blast.
While it was only 1-0, Ilkeston were still in with a chance, and towards the interval they were doing better.
The improvement continued in the second half, and the Ilkeston fans in the big crowd of 987 were thrilled when Tom Cursons equalised after taking advantage of a defender’s error on 68 minutes.
It was suddenly anyone’s game. After being outplayed in the early stages, Ilkeston were going for a winner.
It nearly came just before the end when Jamie Walker shot inches wide.
An exciting game finished all square – still a great result for Ilkeston who extend their own unbeaten start to the season with 1 win and 3 draws.
