What has happened to the Bennerley School clock?
Concern has been raised regarding the recent disappearance of the clock which used to be a well-known feature of the former school on Cotmanhay Road.
Former students have been asking John Allen of Action4Cotmanhay what has happened to it?
John told us: “I didn’t go there myself but it is a very iconic piece of Bennerley School history and the area. One day it was there and another day it was gone. It’s rumoured it has gone to a museum, but it really should be returned here. It’s part of this area and holds special memories for many people. It should be brought back to what is a listed building.”
Bennerley Secondary School opened in 1892 and closed in July 2011, after nearly 120 years. Pupils moved to Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy on King George Avenue.
