Sea Cadets begin their Volunteering Section for DofE at Sandiacre St. Giles church.
Six Long Eaton Sea Cadets have begun the Volunteering section of the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
They are Able Cadets Thomas and Harry G, Cadet First Class Marshall, and Cadets Mason, Sarah-Ellen and Riley.
As part of their tasks, they have committed to looking after the graves of our nation’s fallen who are buried in the borough of Erewash. The Cadets are working with Commonwealth War Graves Commission volunteers James Dawson and Kate Fennelly to ensure the resting places of our servicemen are kept pristine and well looked after.
When the Cadets were asked why they chose to volunteer with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission they all said: “It’s only right that we look after those who gave everything for our freedom.”
As part of this project, each Cadet will choose a particular grave and then research the life of the person who is buried there.
