Helen Collins:
Stanley Common Explorer Scouts on ten-day expedition
Voyager Explorer Scouts Miles McCarthy and Alex Raisin-Moss are having an adventurous summer. They were invited to help see Baden Powell’s Rolls-Royce ‘Jam Roll’ settled into its new home, on display to the public at the Great British Car Journey, Ambergate.
It’s great to see this historic scouting car staying local in Derbyshire. If you like your classic cars, it’s well worth a visit.
This week they have both headed off with Derbyshire Scouts to undertake the Explorer Belt Expedition. This requires them to complete a 10-day expedition as part of a team outside of the UK with a minimum travelling time of 50 hours over the 10 days, by foot, cycle, horse, canoe, boat, or dinghy.
Miles is rafting his way through Sweden, with the team building their own log rafts and wild camping each night. Alex is hiking through the beautiful hills of Tuscany, which is no mean feat in the temperatures we are experiencing this summer!
Along the way they will also have to complete a series of challenges all designed to help immerse them in the local culture and meet new people.
Wishing both of you a fabulous time and we look forward to hearing all about your adventures on your return.
