Ilkeston Town 0 Carlton Town 2 (Wells 8 mins., Hylton 74)

Ilkeston Town FC suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Carlton Town this afternoon.
The pre-season friendly attracted a good crowd to the Microlise NMG – 456 – but most of them went home disappointed after the Robins failed to score.
Despite having recruited several star players, Ilkeston did not really gel – but it was their first time playing together.
They fielded two teams, one for the first half and one for the second, to give match practice to as many as possible.
The first half team did best. Although they ended the half a goal behind, they were unlucky. Former Derby and Forest forward Jamie Ward looked a good acquisition, going close to scoring himself and providing opportunities for others.
Ilkeston’s second half team could not continue the Robins’ earlier dominance and conceded another goal midway through the second half.
All in all, it was a fair result and a useful exercise for Ilkeston. Next up is Melton Town on Saturday, 3pm.
