Joan’s one hundredth birthday tomorrow

Oliver House care home centenarian Joan Edna Witham (nee Golds) was born 9th May 1922 at no.5 Andrew Avenue, Larklands, Ilkeston.
Everyone at the home is delighted to share her 100th birthday with her.
A congratulatory card has been received from Her Majesty the Queen.
Joan will be surrounded by family and friends at Oliver House on Monday and an informal celebratory thanksgiving service will be shared by Revd Christine French and Father Julius from Kirk Hallam Church, followed by a buffet and party.
In 1943 Joan married Albert. They had met at the Regency ballroom. They both enjoyed dancing all their married life.
Joan worked in the hosiery trade, then when war broke out she transferred to Stanton Ironworks doing bomb inspection work for the war effort.
Their son John was born in 1944.
Joan also did work at home on her own linking machine. She worked at Jones and Stroud, Long Eaton until retirement.
She enjoyed gardening, baking, jam making and sewing.
Most of her married life she lived at Moorbridge, Stapleford.
