Levi qualifies at 19
Levi Allen has passed his Gas Diploma examination to be a fully qualified gas engineer.
Working with his grandfather John Allen, a well established local plumber and heating engineer, Levi can now work unsupervised.
John told us: “Levi passed is exams earlier this month at the age of 19 which is very young to pass.
“His course work involved doing all types of gas safety checks, installation and repairs to all types of gas appliances and many hours of written work, writing down and taking photos of all his jobs.
“He has now passed his ACS certification and now is a fully qualified Gas and Heating Engineer which allows him to work on his own.
“Levi went to Ormiston Ilkeston School leaving in 2018 and joined me as an apprentice doing two years course work in plumbing. He did really well in passing his gas exam at such a young age and is now looking forward to doing more of his own gas repairs and installations.
“On leaving school he was told not to go down an apprentice route but go on to 6th form college for a better career prospect, but what he’s done proves that apprenticeships work and school leavers should be encouraged more towards them.”
