Small, bulky and free collections are back!
The free community household waste collections in Erewash for small bulky waste are back by popular demand this month after being a massive hit with residents.
The service sees Erewash Borough Council staff at two collection points in the borough every Saturday morning between 8am and 11.30am to give residents a chance to dispose of their waste for free.
Sites across the borough – including Sandiacre, Ockbrook, Sawley, Kirk Hallam and Little Eaton – have once again been lined up for the service that will run weekly from this month through to March.
It means unwanted items such as bed frames, small pieces of furniture or scrap metal, old toys and bagged soil can be taken to the collection points. Waste electrical items such as toasters, irons, kettles and hair dryers can also be taken for disposal.
Councillor Garry Hickton, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Refuse and Recycling, says:
“This is such good news and we are both proud and delighted to be able to offer this service again – especially after the incredibly challenging times our refuse and recycling teams have battled through over the last year.
“This community service was very popular with local residents, who told us it was a great idea and particularly useful with the collection points organised on Saturday mornings. It was a really well-used service offering a convenient way for householders to get rid of small bulky waste for free. Well now it’s back!”
The first community collection points will be on Saturday 23 October at the Recreation Ground car park on Doncaster Avenue, Sandiacre and the West Park Recycling Area on Wilsthorpe Road, Long Eaton.
The following Saturday (30 October) will see crews at Kirk Hallam’s Windsor Crescent car park and near Kirk Hallam shops.
