Old design – new award
An old picture of how Victoria Park looked in the 1920s provided the inspiration for this year’s East Midlands in Bloom competition.
Dave Bramwell, head of Erewash green space, said a survey revealed that the public wanted Victoria Park kept exactly as it has always been: ‘a peaceful and enjoyable place to visit.’
He said they had found an old black and white photograph, and decided to try and recreate the design, with small flower beds in the shape of triangles and circles.
Result: Ilkeston’s Victoria Park is named as this year’s best park in the East Midlands.
