A ‘bloomin’ success

It’s that time of year when we welcome back the Erewash in Bloom awards and, yet again, entrants have truly outdone themselves! Local residents, schools and businesses have all been honoured in an outstanding year of horticultural glory.

The annual competition to discover the borough’s green-fingered gurus is one of the highlights in Erewash Borough Council’s event calendar. The 2021 results were announced at a presentation event at Morley Hayes Golf Club today, Friday 1 October, which saw awards being handed out by the Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Donna Briggs accompanied by the Leader of Erewash Borough Council, Councillor Carol Hart.

This year’s popular competition attracted nearly 90 entries from people of all ages and from all corners of the borough as well as from community organisations and businesses.

Bloom is the flagship project of the council’s Pride in Erewash Campaign and features a whole range of categories, from best front and back gardens, best hanging baskets through to best school garden and best business display.

The Leader of Erewash Borough Council, Councillor Carol Hart said:

“It was a great privilege to be able to congratulate our Bloom champions for 2021 and marvel at their gardening skills and wonderful displays. So many people took to their gardens during the lockdowns and it has really paid off with stunning entries, which made for a very difficult job for the judges. A huge well done to all the winners and all those who took part. You all helped the borough look incredible this summer, and helped to put the pride in Erewash.”
