A gang is being hunted after leaping from two cars and stabbing a man on an Ilkeston street.

The victim suffered wounds to his body and on one hand but is expected to make a good recovery after a hospital stay.

The attack took place on Ebenezer Street just before 7.50pm on Monday September 13.

Derbyshire Police said: “A group of around eight men are said to have driven past the man in a white Corsa and black Mercedes, before getting out of the cars and assaulting him.

“They were then seen to drive off towards Awsworth,” the statement said.

Officers are keen to receive any footage from dashboard cameras on vehicles in the area, in the hope that this will identify the two cars.

Detective inspector Tom Wagg said: “We understand that reports of this nature can be unsettling but would like to reassure local residents that we are treating this as an isolated incident.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area and noticed anything suspicious.

“We’d particularly like to hear from anyone who saw the white Corsa and black Mercedes travelling in the area around this time.”

The crime reference number is 21*532845.

The force can be contacted through Facebook, Twitter or its website. Phone calls can be made by dialling 101 or anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
