A sex attacker is being hunted after a woman was grabbed on the outskirts of Ilkeston.

The offender may have been hiding on the Nutbrook Trail when he emerged onto Derby Road for the attack. His victim was sexually assaulted but managed to fight off the man and ran away.

The attack took place at around 10.10pm on Thursday September 9 near the popular Swan Lake, which is also known as Straw’s Bridge.

Extra police patrols are being undertaken to calm worries. Officers are keen to collect home security film as well as hearing from passing drivers who have dashboard cameras.

Inspector Ed Browne, senior police officer in Erewash, said: “At this time detectives understand this to be an isolated incident.

“However, I understand how concerning this will be for the community and extra patrols are being undertaken in the area.

“I would urge anyone with any information to come forward and help officers with their enquiries.”

People can contact the Derbyshire force in several ways including use of the 101 phone number. The crime reference number is 21*525259.
