Donald (106) all set for the ride of his life

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service is not just for fire and rescue, it’s for helping people with the nicer things in life as well. So when they found out that a local care home resident would love to ride in a fire engine they stepped up to offer him the chance.
Donald Rose, 106, a decorated war veteran, said there were only two things left that he hadn’t achieved in his varied life, namely a drive in a fire engine and flying a plane.
“We can help with his fire engine dream,” decided the fire and rescue team, so on the day that our June paper is scheduled to be printed (Thursday 3rd June), they plan to take Donald and his carer from Canal Vue… More
