Today commemorates the anniversary of the United Kingdom’s first COVID lockdown. Around the country a minute’s silence will be held at 12 midday with a national doorstep vigil at 8pm to remember those who have died in the pandemic and their families.

Councillor Sue Beardsley, Mayor of Erewash, says “Every day we hear news of the virus in the media and I am sure that not a day goes by without thinking of those who have lost their lives and the families they leave behind.

“Today is the Day of Reflection when we have the opportunity to commemorate the anniversary of the first lockdown back in March 2020. I will be pausing at midday to remember those who have passed. A national memorial event is to be held later in the year and Erewash will be making plans to take part in this event.”
