We are sorry to hear that Jessie Oakes of Cotmanhay has died.
Jessie, in her 90s, was the oldest member of Erewash Time Swap, a Derbyshire County Council scheme in which members help each other with jobs they find difficult themselves. Members give some of their time helping others and bank time that they can then use receiving help.
She initially joined Time Swap as she was interested in sharing her knowledge of knitting, sewing and crochet skills with others and thought the idea of the project was great.
“I never thought I’d end up being a teacher,” she said.
As she was having difficulty getting out and about, her first request was to get some help walking her dog, Bengie. The request was taken up quickly by another member who lived close by and the two became good friends.
Jessie featured in a video singing her own song, which was seen and liked by many on social media.

Our Jessie has written a song which she’d like to share with you all.
What a super star, but we already knew this 💜❤
