On the 22nd September at 12.30pm, Cotmanhay Post Office, on Ash Street, will lock up its doors for the final time.
For the last 33 years it has been our pleasure and honour to serve the customers and the local community as you have visited us and used our services. Ameeta and I came to Ilkeston from London in our 20’s and I’m proud to have called it our home since this time. We have raised our family here, just as we have seen so many of yours flourish and grow in this time, whilst also sadly saying goodbye to many good friends that we made too.
We very much regard you, our customers, as also our friends and we will very much be missing seeing you all weekly and hearing all the latest news, gossip and updates on your lives. I’d like to thank you all for your many years of custom and further to thank the various members of staff whom have worked at the Post Office over the years, especially Mandy, whose support has been integral and very much appreciated in the 20 years she has worked with us, during which time she has become like a family member to us.
I’m happy for the community that we have managed to retain a Post Office in the area for us all as the new office will open on the 23rd September at the Mace Market at the end of Cotmanhay Road, where I am sure Mr and Mrs Patel will continue to provide exceptional service.
Sadly, in these tough and unusual times, we can’t have a celebration and mark the office closure and my retirement with any sort of fanfare. I am sure I’ll bump into many of you, as ever, when we’re out and about shopping.
Again, thank you all for your continued support.
Saillash (Jim) Manek
