Staff and pupils of Chaucer Junior School are using a wall of encouraging words and images to help them to get back into the swing of things following lockdown.
With the help of friends from Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy they have created a bold artwork in the playground to inspire returning children.
The idea for the 'Rising Strong' Wall came from the Embark Multi Academy Trust’s Recovery Curriculum.
The children who are in school have already started elements of the interim curriculum. The messages of hope will be a way of rising strong from the past months of limited learning.
Headteacher Mrs Upton has revealed that Erewash Museum want to use the wall artwork as an exhibition. “It’s fantastic news and we are so excited to be working together,” she said.
The wall design was by Liam Parker and Anna Wheelhouse who were there to see it take shape.
Mr Underhill, Art teacher from Ormiston, also recorded some Chaucer children for a messages of hope film. His own pupils will be adding their aspirational voices to it.
Mrs Upton concluded: “It has been amazing to do a joint project with Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy. The film will give us insights into how children’s priorities in life have changed. It has been a great project that has united the local schools and community to rise stronger together.”
