The preacher at Adam Street Church of Christ on Sunday was Josiah Sparks, aged 12.
The youngster, who attends Ilkeston Ormiston Academy, spoke about reasons to be baptised (a believer's baptism).
He outlined various reasons – peer and family pressure, fear, coming to a personal faith, etc., and talked about his own conversion and gave the congregation an opportunity to respond about their experiences.
Josiah's grandmother Patrica Bullock said: "It was his first time speaking, although he has read occasionally. He was very good, although I am a little biased. I am very proud of him."
