A special event to mark Alex Read’s ‘21st birthday’ is being prepared.
The Family Festival will be held on Saturday 9th May, 2 till 6pm on the field off Wardlow Road, Ilkeston, then 6 till 10pm inside the Rutland Cottage where there will be three bands.
The organisers (including Alex’s parents) are looking for additional stallholders for the field where there will be performers, bouncy castle, slide, games, dog show, ice cream van, throw a wet sponge at a teacher or funeral director, etc.
If you are interested in supporting this event by having a stall, selling crafts, jewellery, food etc. the cost is £15 per pitch. All the money will go to the Bone Cancer Research Trust. Please get in touch with Shirley Read via Facebook messenger if you are interested. .
It should have been Alex's 21st birthday on 11th May. But he lost his brave fight against cancer on the morning of Thursday 13th March 2014.
St John Houghton pupils lined the street for his funeral on what was a heartbreaking yet celebratory day for the life of a remarkable boy.
