Fairground memories
Erewash Museum is once again reminiscing in days gone by with their extremely popular annual one-day ‘Fairgrounds of the Past’ exhibition which is taking place on Saturday 19 October.
Fairground enthusiasts and visitors to the museum will have the opportunity to see and hear an original street organ and showmen’s engine in the museum grounds. The Fairground Association of Great Britain will be displaying their fairground models in the Hayloft.
Enter into the spirit of the 767th Ilkeston Charter Fair by joining in with a taste of how fairs used to be operated in the past – the free event is on between 11am – 4pm. The Old Stable Tearoom will also be open serving food and drinks.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, said:
“The fairground exhibition encourages us to delve into the rich history of fairgrounds. It always proves very popular with families and enthusiasts alike, and you gain a real sense of the past. It’s well worth a visit.”
