Feel the Vibez!

Football, graffiti art, DJ-ing, multi sports and music workshops are among a host of free activities on offer at a newly-launched Friday Night Vibez – a go-ahead project for young people.

The activity sessions will take place every Friday between 6pm and 7.30pm at Bennerley Fields in Cotmanhay and anyone aged 10-15 years can drop by to take part.

Erewash Borough Council’s Sport and Health Development Team has been working with a wide range of partners to organise the weekly sessions to give young people something fun and positive to do. A key aim is to encourage young people to enjoy positive activities and divert them from becoming involved in anti-social and criminal behaviour.

Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:

“We are delighted to have been a part in bringing the ‘Vibez’ to Cotmanhay and congratulate all the partners for their hard work in putting this project together this summer. There will be so much fun on offer and we’re confident young people will absolutely love all the activities. They are all aimed specifically at young people and it’s all free – so if you’re a parent of a teenager, encourage them to go along to these positive and fun Friday evenings.”

The Safer Together Through Sport initiative, led by Active Derbyshire, the council’s Sports and Health Development Team and Street Games, has worked closely with other partners on the Friday Night Vibez project. Others partners involved are Parkside High StreetSide Youth, Erewash Community Safety Partnership, Derby County Community Trust, Erewash Valley Gymnastics Club, Youth Offending, Derbyshire County Council and Cotmanhay Community Network.
