PRESS RELEASE – Maggie backs residents in fight for parking permit scheme
Erewash MP Maggie Throup has backed the residents of Lord Haddon Road and Wharncliffe Road (Ilkeston), in their campaign to persuade Derbyshire County Council to introduce a parking permit scheme in the area.
In her latest efforts, Maggie recently convened a public meeting which was attended by campaigners living in on the roads together with Councillors’ Sue Beardsley, Mary Hopkinson and Tony King, where a number of potential parking options were discussed.
Following the meeting Maggie commented:
“Despite the level of support for the introduction of a parking permit scheme and my persistent lobbying on behalf of the residents of both Lord Haddon Road and Wharncliffe Road, I am extremely disappointed that Derbyshire County Council, which is the responsible Authority for street parking, has yet to resolve the issue.
“The meeting today has been a great opportunity to collect the views of residents, which I will now feed back to the Lead Member for Highways at the County Council, Cllr Simon Spencer, for his consideration.
“I hope this meeting has been a clear demonstration of the strength of feeling amongst residents and will help to focus the minds of the decision makers at the County Council into finally taking action.”
