Very sad news: these community support groups are closing.

Amie Elliott:

It is with a very heavy heart that I have to announce the planned closure of both Community Concern Erewash & Bright Street Laundry CIC.

This is following unprecedented funding cuts which have been imposed over several years, and comes in the wake of the Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group’s announcement of their intention to cut 100% funding to the Charity Sector.

Bright Street Laundry CIC will close to the public on Friday 30th November, Community Concern Erewash will close to the public on 21st December 2018 with services ceasing on the following staggered dates:

Dinners4U (meals on wheels) – Friday 28 September
Luncheon Club – Friday 28 September
1:1 Befriending – Friday 28 September
Home Comforts Team (gardening, decorating, DIY) – Friday 21 December
Erewash Friendship Club – Wednesday 19 December

Until the above dates we remain operational as usual. Due to good monitoring of finances, in line with our Reserves Policy we will remain solvent and will be able to either honour funders contracts until the end of the agreed contract date or repay grant funding to funders as appropriate. Community Asset transfers will commence following the dates of either 30 November or 21 December respectively so please let me know if there is equipment that your community group could benefit from (registered charities only), we will also have some residual funds to transfer to another registered charity who has similar activities as our own. Please let me know if you would like our Board’s consideration for this.

Both myself, Elaine Scogings and our Board would like to publically thank all of our staff and volunteers that have worked so hard and contributed so positively to both organisations over the years. We are all proud and thankful of what they have done to support vulnerable people and without their contribution many people would have been forced into residential care / hospital prematurely. With their help people have been able to maintain their independence at home and live a longer and more fulfilling life.

Our priority now is to support our clients and volunteers and I would like to hold dialogue as soon as possible with anybody who may be able to help support them. Please get in touch if you have capacity.
