PR Boss Set To Put New Spin On Journalism Degree

A Derby based PR Boss has secured herself a job lecturing students at Nottingham Trent University, in a bid to pass on her wealth of experience in public relations.

Tina Clough (33), director at Ilkeston based Poppy-PR, has landed the spot after being approached by Tracy Powell, BA Journalism course leader at the University.

Tina, who studied Print Journalism back in 2007, said: “I have always had fantastic links with the University and I was honoured to be invited back to where it all began, when the University opened its state of the art Centre for Broadcasting and Journalism (CBJ).

“After a career in PR and journalism, I set up my own business in 2010 offering PR, social media, crisis communications and event organisation. I have always accepted students from Nottingham Trent University through our door for work experience, and it has always been something that I have been very passionate about because I have walked in their shoes.”

After being invited to talk to journalism students in 2017 about what it takes to make it in the world of PR, course leader Tracy invited her to attend a meeting with other industry figureheads to help create a brand new PR module, which is set to be taught for the very first time.

Tina continued: “After being approached to help Tracy and her team to create the synopsis for the new module, which was huge honour, I was then asked if I would consider teaching it!. I spoke to the rest of the team at Poppy-PR, and my current work commitments mean that there is space in my diary to teach on Mondays, whilst running the business at the same time.”

Tina will start her new role in October, and will be based at the Nottingham Trent University city campus. It is thought that the new module will include topics such as the history of PR, crisis communications, key terms, writing a press releases and holding a press conference.

Tracy said: ”We are very happy to have Tina on board, I am looking forward to working with her and developing the new PR module with her at the University”

33 year old, Tina who recently picked up a gong at the English Women’s Awards 2018, added: “I have trained all of the team here at Poppy-PR myself, and have always loved to see how people improve and progress. Tracy has instilled her confidence in me with this role, and I intend to do it justice.”
