Hygiene champions again
Erewash Borough Council has topped a national table for the second consecutive year for its impressive food hygiene standards in the latest report from consumers’ champion Which?
Which? says the hard work of the council’s food, health and safety team means planned interventions were carried out on all failing premises and an ‘impressive’ 97% of the borough’s food establishments are compliant with food hygiene standards.
Nearly 400 local authorities across the UK were analysed for the report using data collected by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), including the percentage of high and medium-risk food businesses compliant with food hygiene standards.
Councillor Garry Hickton, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Environment, says:
“What an achievement by our team, ensuring that Erewash retains its title as the best performing local authority for food hygiene enforcement. Our officers work hard all year round to maintain and improve food safety and health and safety standards for the residents of Erewash. Well done to all involved.”
There are more than 950 registered food premises in Erewash, ranging from small corner shops to large food manufacturers. Food safety inspections are carried out in line with the FSA’s Food Law Code of Practice to calculate the hygiene rating which is published on the national FSA website.
Council officers will identify what follow-up action is needed for businesses that are not compliant with the legislation and always provide advice and support to help a business improve.
