Keep on running…

The Erewash Triathlon and Erewash Half Marathon, two of the biggest and most popular events in the local sport and health calendar, are back for another year.

The Erewash Half Marathon takes place on Saturday 18 August starting at Langley Mill at 8.30am, with runners using the towpath and park trails to make their way to the finish line at West Park Leisure Centre. Open to all abilities, the race provides an enjoyable run for both novice and experienced runners. Enter at www.erewashhalf.com

The Erewash Triathlon is back for its eleventh year and while a triathlon may seem daunting, this one is aimed at everybody so is ideal for first timers. The event is open to athletes age 15 and above and all abilities. This year’s event is scheduled to take place on Sunday 19 August – the day after the Half Marathon – with competitors travelling from all over the country to compete.

The event will kick off with a 400m swim in the West Park Leisure Centre pool, followed by a 16km bike ride before the competitors complete the event with a 5km run within West Park. There will be prizes for the top three male and female athletes overall as well as prizes for male and female age group winners. All finishers will receive a goody bag.

An athlete from Long Eaton’s twin town, Langen, is due to travel to the borough to compete in the event. This will be the fourth year of the ‘exchange’ with an Erewash triathlete taking part in the prestigious Frankfurt Triathlon in July.

The Erewash Triathlon is being organised by Stuweb Event Management working in partnership with Erewash Borough Council. Enter online at www.erewashtri.com

Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead, Member for Culture and Leisure, says:

“We are proud to once again host the triathlon and half marathon in Erewash – the many athletes who take part and train so hard to achieve their personal best are inspiring to all. Good luck to all involved!”
