Bandstand is now a grand stand
Bespoke roof repair work to the iconic bandstand at Long Eaton’s West Park has now been completed.
Erewash Borough Council carried out a detailed review of the bandstand’s condition last year, which revealed the cast iron guttering had nearly rotted through and rot had formed on the roof and its supports.
Specialist work has now seen the rotten timber fascia boards replaced, the timber ridge beams repaired and the external iron guttering replaced with cast aluminium. The work included seeing each individual roof support having to be fabricated and welded off-site.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:
“The bandstand is a traditional and popular feature of any park, and the one at West Park has been used to entertain generations of people since 1935.
“We’re delighted to confirm the repair work is now complete and the bandstand can look its best in time for the summer, always the busiest time at this Green Flag park.”
