Catching, balancing and dancing were just some of the activities on offer to primary school pupils at a Mini Movers festival organised by Erewash School Sport Partnership.
More than 200 children from Reception, Year One and Two at schools across Erewash took part in the event at Rutland Sports Park in Ilkeston.
Schools involved included Mapperley Primary, St Thomas, Chaucer, Scargill Primary, Ladywood Primary and Charlotte Infant.
Nineteen sports leaders from Year 7 at Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy also supported the event as part of their work towards a Youth Sport Award with the Youth Sport Trust.
Jack Steggles, from Erewash School Sport Partnership, aid the aim of the day was to make sure that ever pupil taking part left with a smile on their face.
He said: “There were lots of different activities on offer including catching, dancing, balancing with balloons, balancing on different equipment. We just wanted to see them being active, learning new skills and smiling and I think we achieved all of that.
“The leaders from Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy did really well. There was a lot of information to take in and as well as running the activities that were set up for them at different stations they also came up with their own too which was nice to see.
Ian Bamford, Head of PE at OIEA, congratulated the Year 7 students on their leadership skills.
He said: “They were amazing. They were proactive, worked independently, they engaged with the younger pupils but remained focused at all times. It was great to see them encouraging the younger children to have fun and we are extremely proud of all of them.”
Blazej Osinski, 12, a student at OIEA, said: “I really enjoyed working with the younger children as I have a younger brother. I came up with my own game which we encouraged the pupils to take part in.”
