ILKESTON OPTICIANS HAS SIGHTS ON ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT

A Ilkeston opticians will set its sights on supporting Alzheimer’s Society when it launches its Memorable Moments charity calendar and hosts various activities in the branch from 18-22 September.

Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care on Bath Street, is raising funds and awareness to mark World Alzheimer’s Day (on Thursday 21 September). Branch staff will also help the cause by holding a book sale and lucky dip for customers.

The 2018 calendar, priced £4.95, features 12 photographs chosen in a national competition run by Scrivens which asked the public to submit favourite images of memorable occasions, landscapes and special times. It will be sold in branch and online with all proceeds in aid of Alzheimer’s Society, the company’s chosen charity for a third year.

Branch manager, Corinne Meakin, said: “It is a cause close to our hearts because dementia affects so many people in our community. World Alzheimer’s Day gives us a chance to raise awareness of the charity and the continued need for funds for research and support.”

As part of its backing, the branch will donate £1 for every hearing screening from 18-23 September. Scrivens has also joined the Dementia Action Alliance which promotes and shares best practice to help people living with dementia.

The company selected Alzheimer’s Society as its chosen charity because of the growing evidence of a link between uncorrected hearing loss and dementia, including Alzheimer’s.
